The Language Sherpa Writing Competition
The Language Sherpa Writing Competition
With cash prizes for the top three submissions
We are giving away $350 in total to the writers of the three best submissions.
We are looking for fascinating, original content, written in an engaging manner.
If you think you have something interesting to say about languages, then we want to hear it!
Here's How It Works
The rules of the contest are very simple: submit a short article (in English) to do with languages for your chance to win one of our three cash prizes.
There is no minimum word count, but we recommend that contestants aim to write at least 1000 words as short-listed articles will invariably be substantial and well-structured. There is no upper word limit.
We have no particular preferences when it comes to writing style – academic pieces will be considered alongside articles written in a more casual style. Submissions will be judged on their originality, writing quality, and how interesting the topic is.
We appreciate that many contestants may not be native English speakers. Non-native English speakers should not be discouraged from entering the competition as we will make allowances for any foreignness in the text.
Submissions must be about languages – but this is the only restriction when it comes to content. We expect that the majority of submissions will fit into one of the following three categories:
